CASE STUDIES — THREE ENGAGEMENTS IN DETAIL
CASE 01 · SINGLE-DECADE SORT · PETALING JAYA
THE SITUATION
A family needed to clear a house after a parent's passing. Forty years of papers sat with no discernible order. They could not tell what was significant and felt unable to begin without some structure.
WHAT LEGATUM DID
Single-Decade Sort covering the 1970s — earliest decade, most uncertainty. Two hours sorting, grouping, labelling. The session produced a labelled folder set, a one-page summary and a gap list.
THE RESULT
The family used the method sheet to sort two more decades independently. They returned six months later for the Complete Records programme, having seen what the work felt like and decided to continue.
CASE 02 · OBJECTS AND PROVENANCE · KLANG VALLEY
THE SITUATION
Four adult siblings disagreed about distribution of their parents' household objects — not because of the objects themselves but because nobody had a clear record of what existed, its condition, or the provenance attached.
WHAT LEGATUM DID
Objects and Provenance Programme across six weeks: 127 items photographed, referenced and described. A family recording session in week five produced provenance notes from three of the four siblings.
THE RESULT
The catalogue was shared with a solicitor the family engaged separately. A clear, referenced inventory made that conversation significantly more straightforward. The siblings had the same information for the first time.
CASE 03 · COMPLETE RECORDS · KUALA LUMPUR
THE SITUATION
An elderly parent moving from a large family home to a smaller apartment. Forty years of papers, objects and drives needed to be reviewed and reorganised, with outputs legible to adult children in different cities.
WHAT LEGATUM DID
Complete Records and Handover Programme: 16 weeks, 17 sessions. Papers indexed; objects catalogued; drives organised; physical archive labelled; orientation document and register written; three walkthrough sessions held.
THE RESULT
The register identified seven matters requiring a solicitor, accountant and bank. All were actioned within eight weeks of the programme closing. All three adult children can navigate the archive independently.
